Division of Investigative Science
Faculty of Medicine
Salary Range: £25,310 - £29,690 per annum
We are seeking a highly-motivated post-doctoral scientist to work within Dr Vladimir Pelicic's group at the South Kensington campus. The group is part of the Centre for Molecular Microbiology and Infection (CMMI) and studies type IV pili (Tfp), one of the most widespread virulence factors in the bacterial world.
We use the human pathogen Neisseria meningitidis as a model organism to study Tfp and a multi-disciplinary approach combining molecular genetics, functional genomics, protein biochemistry and structural biology. Our intention is that by understanding the molecular basis for Tfp biogenesis and functions, it will be possible to rationally design approaches to prevent and control important infectious diseases.
The post starts on 1 January 2009 and is full-time fixed-term for 18 months. It is funded by the Meningitis Research Foundation to determine whether minor components of meningococcal pili, which we identified recently, could represent novel antigens for inclusion in a vaccine providing universal protection against N. meningitidis.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in molecular microbiology or biochemistry, experience in molecular microbiology and protein biochemistry, and a proven track record of publication in peer reviewed international journals.
For any further information, please contact Dr. Vladimir Pelicic at v.pelicic@imperial.ac.uk or refer to the group's webpage at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/cmmi/research/vladimirpelicic.

Computational Chemistry and Biology Opportunities
Extraordinarily gifted computational chemists, biologists, and other computational scientists are sought to join the Hyderabad office of a New York–based research group that is pursuing an ambitious, long-term strategy aimed in part at fundamentally transforming the process of drug discovery.
Candidates should have world-class credentials in computational chemistry, biology, or physics, or in a relevant area of computer science or applied mathematics, and must have unusually strong research skills. Relevant areas of experience might include protein structure prediction, the computation of protein-ligand binding affinities, the study of biologically important systems using molecular dynamics and/or Monte Carlo simulation, and the application of statistical mechanics to biomolecular systems—but specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical than exceptional intellectual ability and a demonstrated track record of achievement. Current areas of interest within the group include molecular dynamics simulation of functionally significant globular and membrane proteins, the prediction of protein structures and binding free energies, structure- and ligand-based drug design, characterization of protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid and protein-lipid interactions, and the development of algorithms for biomolecular simulations.
We are eager to add both senior- and junior-level members to our world-class team, and are prepared to offer above-market compensation to candidates of truly exceptional ability.
Please send your curriculum vitae (including list of publications, thesis topic, and advisor, if applicable) to natureindiajobs-indchem@career.DEShawResearch.com.

How do you choose a suitable work
First, the ability characteristics. Ability to directly affect the activities of the efficiency of the activities is the successful completion of the psychological characteristics of personality. Any kind of professional social workers on the ability of certain requirements. Such as accounting, treasury and statistics such as employment, workers must have a strong computing power, engineering, construction and costume design, and other professional workers should have the ability to judge space; for pilots, surgeons, athletes, dancers, and other professional The workers will have to have eye-hand co-ordination with the capacity. In the choice of occupation can not set our targets too high or just from the love interest, to seek truth from facts to see if they detect the level of knowledge and professional capabilities, in order to find a "useless" a suitable job.
Second, interests and hobbies. Interest is a person to understand, grasp some things, and often participate in such activities psychological tendencies. Interest is the best teacher of human development have a magical power. People interested in a career that will be the kind of professional activities to show a positive attitude in their work to mobilize the whole psychological activities of the initiative to forge ahead and work hard, contribute to the success of the cause. On the other hand, does not want to be forced to do their work, the energy can be both a waste. Einstein's interest in the guide into the labyrinth of science, science and become a generation of great masters. Beethoven's music world obsessed with magic, Wing Lau-fong, as the end of the musicians.
People's interest is different, this interest is the difference in choice of occupation, when one of the important basis. Different occupations require different features of interest. A good operating skills, by his skillful hands, skills in the field of user-friendly, but if he's interested in and forcibly moved to the type of speculative or theoretical research with people in marketing and public relations up, he would be of no avail.
A person's a lot of interests, generally speaking, a wide range of interests, when freedom of choice of occupation on a number of large, they can adapt to a variety of different positions. A wide range of interests can draw attention to and contacts with various things, for their own career choices and create more favorable conditions.

A wide range of interests can draw attention to and contacts with various things, for their own career choices and create more favorable conditions.
Third, the type of temperament. Psychologist temperament into the sanguine temperament, the quality of bile, phlegm, the quality of the four types of depression. Different types of temperament in the life and work will be shown in different mental activities and behavior. Sanguine temperament of the people lively, active, reflecting the sensitivity, like contact with outsiders, interest and taste easy to transform. Bile quality of energetic people, Piqijizao, easy impulse to transform violent state of mind. Phlegmatic people quiet and stable, quiet, appears to be a solemn, emotional exposure is not easy. The quality of depression were eccentric, slow, difficult to be good at observing other people aware of the details, to have sex. Temperament is no good or bad in itself, each character has both positive and negative side, the quality of blood and bile of quality people who are more suitable for some of the requirements of a rapid, flexible response, phlegm, and the quality of depression are more suitable for Require detailed work to do.
Temperament is a restricted choice of occupation was one of the important factors, different jobs for the people of temperament has special requirements, such as requests medical patient, meticulous, and the pilot requested sensitive wit, focus and so on. With the relative stability of temperament, but can also exercise the day after transformation, is more purely temperament of a very few, most people are several types of temperament both mixed. When choosing jobs to avoid attention.
Fourth, personal character. Character is formed by a variety of characteristics of the organic unity. Character and temperament, their evaluation of the community are obvious good or bad. Many work on the character has a specific quality requirements, it is necessary to choose a professional career must have the required character traits. Such as entrepreneurs, in addition to the professional with the required quality, capability, we must also have a decisive and bold in exploration and innovation features; teachers, in addition to a wealth of knowledge, students should also have the love, integrity, a sense of responsibility, such as good quality; Doctors have asked the life-saving humanitarian spirit and meticulous approach to their work. Practice has proved that without a good career and personality suited to the requirements of quality, will not be able to adapt to work well.
In the choice of occupation, should be considered in addition to the above-mentioned factors and constraints, gender, age, physical condition, specialties, its social significance and development prospects, the necessary work to protect the environment and what the conditions, which must also The degree of influence on the direction of people's careers, people can not be ignored when choosing.
