We are seeking a highly-motivated post-doctoral scientist to work within Dr Vladimir Pelicic's group at the South Kensington campus. The group is part of the Centre for Molecular Microbiology and Infection (CMMI) and studies type IV pili (Tfp), one of the most widespread virulence factors in the bacterial world.

We use the human pathogen Neisseria meningitidis as a model organism to study Tfp and a multi-disciplinary approach combining molecular genetics, functional genomics, protein biochemistry and structural biology. Our intention is that by understanding the molecular basis for Tfp biogenesis and functions, it will be possible to rationally design approaches to prevent and control important infectious diseases.

The post starts on 1 January 2009 and is full-time fixed-term for 18 months. It is funded by the Meningitis Research Foundation to determine whether minor components of meningococcal pili, which we identified recently, could represent novel antigens for inclusion in a vaccine providing universal protection against N. meningitidis.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in molecular microbiology or biochemistry, experience in molecular microbiology and protein biochemistry, and a proven track record of publication in peer reviewed international journals.

Extraordinarily gifted computational chemists, biologists, and other computational scientists are sought to join the Hyderabad office of a New York–based research group that is pursuing an ambitious, long-term strategy aimed in part at fundamentally transforming the process of drug discovery.

Candidates should have world-class credentials in computational chemistry, biology, or physics, or in a relevant area of computer science or applied mathematics, and must have unusually strong research skills. Relevant areas of experience might include protein structure prediction, the computation of protein-ligand binding affinities, the study of biologically important systems using molecular dynamics and/or Monte Carlo simulation, and the application of statistical mechanics to biomolecular systems—but specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical than exceptional intellectual ability and a demonstrated track record of achievement. Current areas of interest within the group include molecular dynamics simulation of functionally significant globular and membrane proteins, the prediction of protein structures and binding free energies, structure- and ligand-based drug design, characterization of protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid and protein-lipid interactions, and the development of algorithms for biomolecular simulations.

• Experience: A minimum of 8 years related work experience in a professional or technical role in the same industry; Experience with electrical design of high reliability power generation and distribution systems in large facilities; Experience with provision of power to major events (i.e. show power), particularly sports events;
• Knowledge & Skills: Demonstrated electrical design and report writing skills. Ability to use office, project management, and CAD software including, but not limited to: MS Office, MS Project, financial cost tracking systems, AutoCAD. Ability to work effectively on a self-directed basis in a changing environment, and to make timely and technically-sound decisions under pressure. Ability to use skills in organization, prioritization, and time management to effectively handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines under a demanding workload. We are a real camera store.

Every one of our employees loves photography, and we love to share that love of photography with our customers. And Newtonville Camera is not your ordinary retail employment experience - we're not a mega-chain-store. We're a locally owned, family business. The first requirement for consideration is that you must love (or at least strongly like) photography. You don't have to be a Pulitzer Prize winning professional photographer, but you must at least enjoy taking pictures.

The second requirement is that you must be a motivated, team-oriented, and personable worker. We all pitch in to help customers, fulfill orders, improve the customer experience, and improve our workspace.

The third requirement is that you must have experience with film photography and digital photography. If you are an enthusiastic beginner, that's ok, but you must be willing to learn.

This is a 26 hour-per-week part-time position with the hours: Monday & Tuesday 9:AM - 6:PM, and Saturday 9:AM - 5:PM.

Job hunting online in a troubled economy

With the current tough economy, and rising unemployment, many Americans need to find a new job. One of the hottest places to find jobs these days in online.

Many people answer a job ad only to find out later that the actual job was misrepresented. in some cases, marketing jobs turn out to be door-to-door sales.

In others, a shipping job turns out to be a foreign scam.

But the better business bureau has tips to protect yourself before you get caught in a con.

Esther answered a newspaper ad for a "customer service job" where she would supposedly be "testing customer service."

But the red flag: the company wanted her to test out money wiring services after depositing a check for several thousands dollars in her own account.

The check was fraudulent: she would have wired away her own money.

Aleta answered a monster.com ad for a shipping job.

Red flag: she would receive and re-ship suspicious foreign goods.

"It was like offshore companies that deal with computer pieces and parts."

Scott answered a "career builder" ad for international sales.

His red flag: he'd have to use his own bank account.

"They were looking for people to use their bank accounts to build up us clients."

All the people above narrowly avoided getting caught in an employment scam.

The better business bureau says avoid job ads with grammar or spelling errors: English is not the writer's first language.

Beware too-good-to-be-true salary offers, such as "$3,000 a week."

Beware all work-at-home offers: very few are legitimate. Unsure? check with the BBB.

Avoid jobs asking for money up front: legit companies don't charge you to apply.

The BBB says two of the most common online job scams right now involve these phrases: "marketing" and "mystery shopping."

If you stumble upon either one of those terms in a job hunt, demand details about the job.

If the marketing sounds like door to door sales, or the mystery shopping involves cashing checks, it's probably a case of "don't waste your money."
